Juli 1919, mittags 12 Uhr im H\u00f6rsaal 13 des Universit\u00e4ts-Hauptgeb\u00e4udes\u201c hielt Dr. F. E. A. Krause zum Zwecke der Habilitation bei der Philosophischen Fakult\u00e4t seine \u00f6ffentliche Antritts-Vorlesung zum Thema \u201e<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-heidelberg.de\/md\/zo\/sino\/institute\/staff\/kampen\/kampen_krause.pdf\">Sprache und Schrift in China und Japan<\/a>\u201c.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">Das <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zo.uni-heidelberg.de\/sinologie\/shan\/nl-archiv\/2009_NL33.html#2\">erste Institut<\/a> war in der Akademiestra\u00dfe 1, das Haus steht dort noch. Die Finanzierung erfolgte mit Unterst\u00fctzung der <i>von Portheim Stiftung<\/i>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"NL97_7_1\" height=\"499\" node-id=\"\/2\/477\/478\/850\/851\/133921\/287443\" src=\"https:\/\/shan-hd.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/nl97_8_1.jpg\" style=\"border-style: solid; border-width: 0px; border-color: black; margin: 0px;\" width=\"345\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">Die wichtigsten Studierenden waren damals<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zo.uni-heidelberg.de\/sinologie\/shan\/nl-archiv\/2007_NL14.html#3\"> Philipp Schaeffer <\/a>und Netty Reiling, die als Schriftstellerin <a href=\"http:\/\/ https:\/\/www.zo.uni-heidelberg.de\/sinologie\/shan\/nl-archiv\/2007_NL15.html#3\">Anna Seghers<\/a> bekannt wurde.&nbsp;Beide promovierten in Heidelberg und zogen sp\u00e4ter nach Berlin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"NL97_7_2\" height=\"270\" node-id=\"\/2\/477\/478\/850\/851\/133921\/287444\" src=\"https:\/\/shan-hd.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/nl97_8_2.jpg\" style=\"border-style: solid; border-width: 0px; border-color: black; margin: 0px;\" width=\"250\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">Seghers ging in den drei\u00dfiger Jahren ins Exil, Schaeffer starb in Deutschland.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><a class=\"cke-saved-href\" data-widget=\"mamasset\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-heidelberg.de\/md\/zentral\/schaeffer_gedenktafel_460x280.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"NL97_7_3\" height=\"280\" node-id=\"\/2\/477\/478\/850\/851\/133921\/287445\" src=\"https:\/\/shan-hd.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/nl97_8_3.jpg\" style=\"border-style: solid; border-width: 0px; border-color: black; margin: 0px;\" width=\"460\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">Dr. Krause wechselte allerdings nach wenigen Jahren nach G\u00f6ttingen; in den drei\u00dfiger, vierziger und f\u00fcnfziger Jahren gab es in Heidelberg weder das Fach Sinologie noch ein Institut.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">Der zweite Versuch die Chinaforschung zu etablieren war erfolgreicher: <\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">1962 wurde ein <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zo.uni-heidelberg.de\/sinologie\/shan\/nl-archiv\/2007_NL17.html#4\">neues Institut<\/a> gegr\u00fcndet und Dr. Wolfgang Bauer hierhin berufen.&nbsp;Damals studierten bei ihm u.a. K. Finsterbusch, L. Ledderose, H. Martin und R.G. Wagner, die alle sp\u00e4ter selbst Professoren wurden.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">Nach einem Vierteljahrhundert wurde in den sp\u00e4ten achtziger Jahren ein zweiter sinologischer und der erste japanologische Lehrstuhl eingerichtet, in den fr\u00fchen neunziger Jahren zogen die beiden F\u00e4cher in die Akademiestra\u00dfe 4-8; auch die Ostasiatische Kunstgeschichte gab es damals schon (in der N\u00e4he der Unibibliothek).<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">Nach der Jahrhundertwende bildeten die drei F\u00e4cher das <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zo.uni-heidelberg.de\/\">ZO \u2013 Zentrum f\u00fcr Ostasienwissenschaften <\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">Das gr\u00f6\u00dfte Heidelberger Ereignis des neuen Jahrhunderts war die Konferenz der <a href=\"http:\/\/projects.zo.uni-heidelberg.de\/eacs2004\/\"><b>European Association of Chinese Studies (EACS)<\/b><\/a> im Jahre 2004. <\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">Bald darauf wurden die alten Magisterstudieng\u00e4nge vom BA abgel\u00f6st.
