Vor siebzig Jahren (1948) fand die erste sinologische Nachkriegskonferenz in England statt; in diesem Jahr (2018) fand die EACS-Konferenz in Schottland statt.<\/p>\n

1948 luden Edwin Pulleyblank (1922-2013) und Piet van der Loon (1920-2002) nach Cambridge, London und Oxford ein, um die Zusammenarbeit j\u00fcngerer europ\u00e4ischer Wissenschaftler zu verbessern. Vier Damen und vierzehn Herren nahmen teil, die meisten waren keine Professoren. Danach folgten mehr als zwanzig j\u00e4hrliche Treffen der \u201eJunior Sinologues\u201c (https:\/\/www.zo.uni-heidelberg.de\/sinologie\/institute\/staff\/kampen\/eacs.html<\/a>).<\/p>\n

1975 wurde dann die European Association of Chinese Studies (EACS) in Paris gegr\u00fcndet, 1976 organisierte die EACS ihre erste gro\u00dfe Konferenz. Sie fand im September statt \u2013 als Mao Zedong starb (https:\/\/www.zo.uni-heidelberg.de\/sinologie\/shan\/nl-archiv\/2016_NL88.html#5<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Drei Konferenzen waren in der Geschichte  der europ\u00e4ischen Sinologie besonders interessant. Die erste von diesen fand gar nicht statt. 1968 hatte der tschechische Professor Jaroslav Prusek (1906-1980) die Junior Sinologues nach Prag eingeladen, wegen der sowjetischen Invasion konnte diese Tagung aber nicht stattfinden. Der flei\u00dfige Wissenschaftler hat aber einen Konferenzband zum Thema \u201eVierte Mai Bewegung\u201c zusammengestellt, der auch gedruckt werden konnte (https:\/\/www.zo.uni-heidelberg.de\/sinologie\/shan\/nl-archiv\/2010_NL44.html#8<\/a>).<\/p>\n

1994 fand dann tats\u00e4chlich eine Konferenz in Prag statt bei der der verstorbene Professor gew\u00fcrdigt wurde. F\u00fcr Heidelberg war 2004 die Tagung der EACS wichtig, die die bis dahin gr\u00f6\u00dfte war. (Damals gab es SHAN noch nicht, sodass wir nicht aktuell berichten konnten.)<\/p>\n

In diesem Zusammenhang sollten zwei Pers\u00f6nlichkeiten der Sinologie erw\u00e4hnt werden, die jahrzehntelang bei der EACS eine wichtige Rolle spielten: Glen Dudbridge und Brunhild Staiger. Beide wurden 1938 geboren und starben im Jahr 2017. Beide waren Pr\u00e4sidenten der Organisation, Dudbridge wurde 1998, Staiger 2004 (in Heidelberg) gew\u00e4hlt. Dudbridge war vor allem in Cambridge und Oxford aktiv, die aus dem Berliner Raum stammende Staiger in Hamburg am Institut f\u00fcr Asienkunde; sie war u.a. an der Herausgabe des alten China Handbuchs (1974) und des neuen China Lexikons (2003) beteiligt.<\/p>\n
